Book Review | All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover

August2022

I want to start this book with the emotions that I felt. This was the first book that I read by Colleen Hoover and I loved this. This was the first book that I read and finished in August 2022.

This book was happy and sad at the same time. While I don't have the same struggle with the characters it is a fear of mine and that fear helped me connect with the couple in the book.

A summary of the Novel:

Quinn and Graham are the main characters and the story is told from Quinn’s point of view. This book is told in two different periods. It tells the story of when Quinn and Graham first started dating and it also tells the story of after Quinn and Graham got married and their struggles with having children.

Connection to the book

So the fear that helped me connect to the book was the fear that one day I may not be able to have kids. Now I don’t have any issues right now that would give me a reason to worry, but I love kids and want them someday.

Also, the pain that Hoover was able to portray in the two characters and the way they coped differently.

Alternating between Past and Present

Every chapter alternated between the past and the present they still connected. I didn’t feel disconnected every time a chapter ended and I was in a different time era. At times, I was more connected to the chapters that covered the past. The present chapters included a lot of trauma and explaining pain which is sometimes hard to get through

I loved that the book started with action. Hoover gave information out in many of the scenes which got rid of the oversharing in the beginning. Maybe that was the reason why I liked the chapters that covered the past.

Hesitation reading Colleen Hoover

I did hesitate with reading a Colleen Hoover book because I have heard people say that she wasn’t a good author, but I loved the book and plan on reading more from her. I am glad that I bit the bullet and read this book. It did take me two days to read the book and it was an accomplishment on my goal to get back to reading a book a day.

I read that Colleen Hoover writes Trauma porn and I will admit that the book had a lot of trauma and there were a couple of intimate scenes that were a little dry.

Also, sometimes in some of the scenes, the imagery was amazing, but sometimes I did get confused. Based on the descriptive words Colleen used I was a little lost on what she was trying to say.

Before TikTok, I hadn’t heard of Colleen Hoover and I will say it is annoying when TikTok is the reason an author gets recognition rather than their work being showcased for their writing and plot. If someone doesn’t know that Colleen writes Trauma stories that combine some intimate moments then it would be a shock when reading her for the first time.

Ratings:

I would read another book by Hoover because I loved this book. I would also like to test out if this book was a fluke or if I may like Hoover’s writing.

For All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover on my scale, it was a 5/5. I recommend with warnings that this book includes some trauma.
