New Job:Getting Ready for my New Position

I have been working for about a month and a few days, and I wanted to share what I did to prepare for my first day. I feel as if I finally have settled on a routine.I will share things that I did leading up to my first day and things I made sure I brought with me on my first day of my new job.

Sleep Schedule

Aligning my sleep schedule to my work hours helped me adjust to the new routine. It took my body a month to regulate itself. During the first week at my new job, I went straight to bed as soon as I got home. FYI I get home at 6 pm.

Starting to sleep early prepares my body for work. Now I did not immediately fall asleep when I wanted to sleep. The three-day advances helped me work up to it. Now, I have a balanced sleep schedule and wake up for work before my alarm even sounds. That does not mean I will be getting rid of my alarm. There will be a day when the timer may have to wake me up.

Legal Documents for my new job

I work at a non-profit, so they require extra information like a background check and a drug test. I did not have to pay for these pre-checks, but I had to go to a collection agency to do a urine sample for my drug test.

For my tax information, it took me about 30 minutes for me to fill out the forms. My legal identification was inputted into the systems, and I decide what to contribute to my 401k and health benefits.

Also, I triple-checked that all that information was accurate. I wanted to make sure everything was right as this was my first professional job out of college.

Outfits

Fresh out of College, I had a few professional work outfits, but not a lot. I went shopping for skirts, pants, and tops that I could mix and match to make outfits. I bought enough to get me through two weeks, and I would wash the clothes and pair them with other things to make new combinations.

Then I realized I did not have any dresses. I found a $5 dress on Rainbow and bought 26 dresses. Which may be excessive, but now I have an arsenal of office clothes that would fit any of my moods. It also is great that I can grab an outfit and go. I learned that I am not great at planning outfits the night before. The dress haul came out to be 154 dollars. Very cheap.

What am I bringing

I had to think about what I would need in the office and what I would need for lunch. Thankfully, my mom was off work for a while; she woke up and cooked every morning for me. I had her meals during the first month of work. For the first two weeks, I ate in the common area and talked to my co-workers, but now I eat at my desk. During the first week of work, eat in common areas to get to know your co-workers.

Keep a Notebooks

At the beginning of the job, always have a notebook for notes and any questions you will ask. Do not be afraid to speak up and talk. Ask questions. Write down anything that you think will be essential in the future. It is better to have the answer in your notebook than to ask another time.

Clean room

My room and living space were clean; it is terrible to have your room a mess. After work, you are too tired to clean up when you get home. I cleaned and restocked the things I would need for the next month. The ball was not dropped. I did all this through my credit so that my first paycheck would pay for everything.

Home and personal stuff

I did tax things for my parents and doctors' appointments. I ensured the house was in order. So all I have to do is take care of minor things when they arise.

That is pretty much what I did to get ready for my first day of work at a new job.
